Forgotten Houses holiday cottages and houses for rental for holiday accommodation are of interest for their location, architecture or history. In addition to our houses shown here in Wales and the north and south of France, we also have many houses in Cornwall, England.

Most of the houses are listed and in their original setting; one or two are truly unusual. Many have been carefully modernised. However, old houses and old features mean that some are unconventional or do not meet modern standards of use or convenience. We believe the historic features and character add to the interest and pleasure of the house, the setting and your holiday.

Most of the houses are built of granite with walls two feet thick under slate roofs. Some walls in the cottages are filled with earth, cob or rab. Nearly all have fire-places or stoves for which wood is supplied within the rental. Televisions & washing machines, as well as books and games, are usually provided. All are well placed for holiday areas and can take advantage of beaches, moors, cliffs, and places to visit.

Details of each house and cottage include photographs - many with "panoramic tour" photographs - and a scaled floor plan. These plans cannot show all the nooks, crannies or features, but should give an idea of the layout. Because the houses vary in size, each plan is scaled to fit the page and cannot be directly compared without use of the scale which, with North direction, is marked on each drawing. Furniture and layout arrangements are symbolic only and may vary. We accept dogs and pets in nearly all the houses.

Visitors' books are full of stories, drawings and comments on the houses and locality. We like reading your comments, rely on them for testimonials and award occasional prizes for the particularly amusing, interesting or original. Testimonials are, thankfully, numerous and a small selection are included on most of the houses details pages. Of these, the most important are those many who just say "we will be back".
